The world is more receptive than ever to clean, renewable sources of energy that help to reduce the carbon footprint that is created from traditional sources of electricity production. As the middle classes in Countries such as China, India and many African nations grow, there will be an increase in the need for energy sources to power the new cities that will need to be developed. iM-1 Development can help lead the way in the design and implementation of renewable and sustainable power infrastructures for these new cities.

iM-1 Development is able to design a series of intertwined microgrids that can power entire city grids. This is the future of powering new cities with clean, renewable and sustainable energy. As the world looks for ways to reduce carbon emissions, the use of hydrogen fuel-cells will play a large part.

A smart city is a designation given to a city that incorporates information and communication technologies (ICT) to enhance the quality and performance of urban services such as energy, transportation and utilities in order to reduce resource consumption, wastage and overall costs.

Several new Smart Cities are in the planning stages within the United States. Most notably is Belmont, which is a proposed planned city in the Phoenix metropolitan area of Arizona. The development is a partnership between billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates and local real estate investors and will be a "smart city" designed around emerging technologies.

Countries such as Saudi Arabia, India and China are already planning new, smart cities that are powered by renewable, sustainable power sources. This is a major goal to the future of these Countries. Perhaps the most notable of these smart cities being planned is NEOM in Saudi Arabia. It is planned to incorporate smart city technologies and function as a tourist destination. The site is near the Red Sea and the borders that Saudi Arabia shares with Egypt and Jordan. It will cover a total area of 26,500 km2 (10,200 sq mi) and will extend 460 km along the coast of the Red Sea. Below is a rendering of one of these new cities that is planned in Saudi Arabia.

 
 

By scaling its microgrids, iM-1 Development can apply fuel-cell technology to handle the needs of these new smart cities. This includes any backup power needs to ensure that the electricity transmission is as reliable as traditional power supplied traditional utility companies.

As the world population continues to grow, governments around the world are looking for ways to reduce the carbon footprint that is created from traditional methods of transportation and energy creation. Hydrogen could deliver one-fifth of World Carbon cuts by 2050. iM-1 Developent will be a key player in the application of developing new Smart Cities around the world by implementing its hydrogen powered microgrids.
